If the reading is off the drum on the flat side of the scale a -1.00 D. lens can be held or positioned in front of the objective.  Again a conversion must be made (Click and hold          to see accompanying chart).

Another type of holder can be made that is permanently mounted on the instrument into which trial spectacle lenses can be placed.
